Letter of Complaint

Dear Housing Department,

Hi there and a very good day. After numerous deliberations I have finally resolved in writing this letter of complaint regarding the inconsiderate behavior of our new housemate, Sharry Gill (new occupant of 807D). For your information, both me and my other Korean housemate, Joon of 807B are very discontented with this self-centered individual who is an obvious blot on the whole housing experience. Unfortunately, he is  far cry as compared to the previous occupant from Iran.

To contend with my allegations, I will list down the many reasons for both of our dissatisfaction with this new addition into our unit. First and foremost, everyday, he will bring his mates into the unit and this is really unpleasant and distracting whenever we need to study or rest in the unit. Not to mention the frequent cooking activities late into the night banging pots and pans, slamming drawers and etc. As I am situated opposite the kitchen, this can be a major annoyance.

Secondly, to put up with this nonsense daily has really worn thin our tolerance and I certainly think we have a say in this. As I am writing now, it is 1.30 a.m Sunday (no, you have not read wrong) and his mates are still around creating noises, chatting as if they owned the whole place. Being diplomatic, I am trying hard to refrain from a direct confrontation so I have decided to voice my grievances over this channel that I deemed to be proper. Therefore, I hope you can use your authority and give him a warning for his antics that constantly irritate us to no end.

Thirdly, though I do not mind cleaning up other people’s mess but doing this constantly really tests my patience. Although he did at least cleans up the dishes but the whole place is usually left in disarray with oil splattered all over the stove and counter. This is not the main reason for my lividness but the noise has really gotten into my nerves and to no end.

Last but not least, we hope this matter can be solved amicably and I certainly do not hope it escalating into something unpleasant for us all. Thank you and have a great day. I do look forward to hear from you again in as soon as possible.

Regards,
Wei Lik, Lee

The reason I am being pissed off and grumpy, hence, I decided to compose this e-mail and sent it to the Housing Unit. In short, I just hate this asshole (my new Indian a.k.a “Aachaa” housemate) with passion and panache. Right after pressing the send button, I am feeling a tad better already. The earth will be a better place without idiots like him. FUCK YOU!

Happy New Year 2009

What a day! Spent the entire day queuing from 11 a.m till getting in at around 5 p.m to the Botanical Gardens. The whole experience was gruesome to say the least and needless to say, it was back-breaking especially with the classic summer climate and the endless throng of crowds lining up to witness the 12 minutes long one-of-a-kind fireworks display, arguably one of the best in the world. From my first-person perspective, it cannot be any better than this especially the official 12 p.m ones. Literally, it lit up the skies and was an amazing sight to behold. Never have I, in my 20 years of life, witnessed something so spectacular and well-orchestrated to the dot.

One gripe though is the photo-taking opportunities as the whole gardens are surrounded by lush greeneries and rocky terrains which completely obliterate any good photo-taking chances. Not to mention you will need to jostle with ten of thousands of revelers for some limited hot spots. As can be seen from the photos, the 12 p.m fireworks are marred by the branches of some trees which did a good job in wreaking a golden opportunities of capturing something so spectacular that is rare to come by.

Although it can be quite chaotic, it was, nevertheless, a good experience as one can only learn from his surroundings and a day such as this, one can observe many bizarre occurrences such as one group even brought a blow-up doll, many girls were nearly half-naked bursting out of their tight bikinis while sun-tanning, some half-drunks singing and dancing and etc. Fortunately, no calamity strikes such as terrorist attacks or riots but on the way back along George St., someone was knocked out by what must be some drunken brawl which is a normal event happening every Fridays and Saturdays when the bars are flowing with punters.

Million Dollar Baby

The weather is bleak and gloomy from the time when I woke up this morning till now, when I finally muster some efforts to jump start my passive brain into so-called ‘creativity’ mode. Hey, its never easy to write something worthy but anyhow, you’ll be the judge. As again, I have found the passion to lift myself from being slothful to being ‘productive’ albeit the freaky ‘summer’ here in the Land of Down Under thanks to the masterpiece directed by Clint Eastwood entitled, Million Dollar Baby starring the man himself, Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman. In a nutshell, it could easily be one of my all-time favorites right up there with classics like The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather I & II and the recent, Dark Knight.

Never had much of a good experience with drama myself because from what I have watched so far, they are usually shallow, predictable, and basically lacks emotional but this classy, masterpiece film just complete the puzzle that have been missing in most other movies. It is in my opinion, a wholesome, heart-rending, simplistic movie of an aspiring, determined female boxer who against all odds have finally achieved her dream although by paying the ultimate price. Following closely through her modest start to her stardom rise and then, her sudden fall, the whole emotional roller-coaster is as raw as pouring salt & vinegar into your deep wound. It is aching and moving, all at the same time.

Even as of now, recalling the movie so it can be put into words made me tearful. Way to go, Million Dollar Baby! 5 out of 5.

Eh, I like this new cleaner layout of Windows Live Spaces with its larger typeface, less clutter and omission of the ever-annoying ads. In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve changed a new fireworks background to anticipate the New Year when we enter 2009. Microsoft, it’s also time to introduce a Christmas theme with snow….. though here in Australia, White Christmas is as far fetched as wishing Malaysia and its obtuse politicians to become more competitive and focus on the bigger picture instead of squabbling over peanuts.

Quantum of Solace

Finally, I have got to watch the latest James Bond installment today (yesterday evening) at The Reading Cinemas, Market City. Costs me $13 and is it worth the price? Yes and no, yes, because I get to see the Aston Martin DBS (albeit it’s heavily abused) in action and secondly, this blockbuster is all about ‘heart pumping adrenaline rushing’ sequel to the Casino Royale. No, is because half of the time I do not follow what is happening because everything seems to happen too promptly and simultaneously. Mind you, the cinema do not provide subtitle and half of my brain cells are dedicated to translate the British accented conversations and what’s left of my fragile neurons are brought all around the world in chases happening from Italy to South America and other European countries.

To label it as a total flop would be inappropriate because it does have its own attractions but let’s put it this way, it will not goes down the history as the best Bond flick but perhaps the most action-packed one. However, one downside is that all the actions’ cinematography have outshone the weak development of the storyline making it confusing and difficult to understand.

Old school Bond junkies may be notably be disappointed with the lack of gadgetry (except the multi-touch gesture screen) and the steamy customary love scenes of Bond and his alluring, bodacious Bond girls.

All in all, I would give it a rating of 3.5/5. Does not exceed my expectations or am I expecting too much? Nonetheless, you should judge yourself by watching it as every Bond films are at least worth their salt.
